Creating an educational and social environment for people with special needs is one of the important goals of our university in order to develop their abilities towards achieving the academic progress through the development of strategies based upon counseling and support services, which may contribute to the formation of an effective relationship between them and the university or the community as part of their university studies. So our university has developed an administrative unit for the people with special needs, within the formations of its organizational structure linked to the office of the rector in charges with the following objectives and tasks:
Objectives of the Unit
1 – Determine the general framework for the services of the counseling unit for the care of people with special needs.
2 – Building a strategic relationship with associations, centers and competent authorities to serve people with special needs, such as the Association of Persons with Disabilities in Al-Ahsa.
3 – Preparing counseling and training programs for the students with special needs.
Tasks of the Unit
1 – Communicate directly with this category so as to identify the status of each student and to make the necessary facilities.
2 – Work on communication between the student affairs units and other relevant deanships or departments regarding this category.
3 – Conducting the necessary meetings between the students with special needs and the student affairs units so as to introduce the services provided to them and know their requirements.
4 – Work to involving them in all available programs such as: training, activities, events concerned with this category.
5 – Holding workshops to familiarize faculty members with the needs of this group of people in order to facilitate attaining their academic and social requirements.
6 – Opening a file for each student (as a case follow-up) related to their academic level to avoid any shortcomings that may occur during their academic career at the university.
