The College of Mass Communication at the University of Baghdad has recently hosted the launch ceremony of the national standards for the accreditation of media programs in Iraq which was held by the National Council for Accreditation of Media Colleges Programs, under the patronage of His Excellency the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Naim Al-Aboudi, in cooperation with the Bilad Alrafidain University College.

The dean of the college of media, Prof. Dr. Ammar Taher, stated during his speech that: “We are pleased that our leading college in the field of media is the starting point towards advancing to broad horizons, as we can enhance our reality with new Arab and international standards by taking big step towards upgrading the academic and professional standards of the Iraqi educational institutions at all levels. Dr. Taher added that: “We are pleased that the college of media is the first college in Iraq to announce the submission of an integrated file for the accreditation application, as we are always keen to be at the forefront in all scientific and administrative aspects,” adding that “the launch of accreditation standards is a motivating factor for media colleges and departments to work hard so as to reach at a model phase, whether at the level of curricula, infrastructure or other requirements”.

The head of the supervision and evaluation department at the ministry of higher education and scientific research, Prof. Salah al-Fatlawi, explained during his speech that “the launch of the national accreditation standards for the media specialization is a defining and important moment in the history of one of the important and vital humanitarian disciplines, according to which colleges and departments in this field will be obliged to apply those standards set by the National Council for the purpose of obtaining accreditation license.” For his part, the Chairman of the National Council for the Accreditation of Media Colleges Programs, Prof. Ali al-Shammari, considered that the establishment of the Council for Improving the Quality of Education in Media Colleges is a major step that will reform media education in media colleges and departments in Iraq in order to achieve the quality of education in accordance with the philosophy that education is a continuous process and that its main purpose is to improve education and achievement for all students, calling on the colleges to submit accreditation applications to the council in order to be considered by the related national team and specialized experts.
