The College of Dentistry at the University of Baghdad has organized a workshop entitled (Biological Safety in Laboratories) presented by Prof. Dr. Batool Hassan Hashim in the presence of a number of faculty members and employees at the college. This event aimed to introduce practices, procedures and uses of equipment to ensure safe conditions when working with microorganisms that may be infectious or with hazardous biological materials.
The lecturer at first defined the term of biological safety as all safe work practices associated with the handling of biological materials, especially infectious agents through attention to the principles of containment, technologies and practices implemented to prevent accidental exposure or release of pathogens and toxins. The researcher called for a commitment to the responsibility of laboratory practices, which include protection, control and accountability of valuable biological materials, which will help prevent unauthorized access, loss, misuse, misrepresentation, or even the intentional release of them.
