The Department of International Community Research at the Center for Women’s Studies, has held a scientific virtual symposium entitled: (International mechanisms for the protection of women’s rights in accordance with the Resolution (2535) in light of conflict and wars and their role in building peace). Prof. Dr. Saad Saleh Al-Issa from the College of Political Sciences has delivered the first lecture entitled (Women’s rights as being human rights), while Prof. Dr. Imad Salah from the College of Political Sciences at Al-Nahrain University and the national volunteer coordinator in Iraq for the community development project gave a lecture on the (Security Council resolution 2535 in 2020 and the importance of young women and youth in the public policy course).

Then Assist. Prof. Dr. Zainab Muhammad Saleh from the Department of Sociology at the College of Education for Women and the General Coordinator of Professional Master’s Programs and Peacebuilding and Assist. Prof. Dr. Ahmed Hadi Fahad from the Center for Strategic and International Studies at the University of Baghdad and the lecturer Dr. Muhammad Jabbar al-Krizi from Al-Nahrain Center for Strategic Studies have presented a joint research paper entitled: (Youth and their empowerment in the face of extremism) in the presence of a large gathering from inside and outside Iraq, with a total of (540) Iraqi, Arab and international ministries and institutions.

The participants reached at a number of recommendations, including taking appropriate measures to enhance the physical and psychological recovery and social reintegration of young survivors of armed conflict, including those with disabilities and survivors of sexual violence committed, the possibility of quality education, social and economic support, the development of skills such as vocational training and resumption of life, emphasizing the key role played by young women in rebuilding the fabric of society and in order to give them a role in building a complete, equal and effective system for all stages of peace and empowering young women to make a change in combating terrorism and extremism and activating youth participation in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in conflict resolution and decision-making by the Iraqi government so as to enhance security and societal peace and paying attention to what has become internationally known as the participatory development approach in communities.
