The College of Dentistry at the University of Baghdad has organized a symposium entitled (GlycoRNA) presented by Prof. Iman Ali al-Rubaie, in the presence of a number of faculty members at the college. The symposium aimed to inform participants about a new scientific discovery of RNA molecules linked to parts of sugar compounds in a scientific research completed by an American scientific team in 2021.

The researchers demonstrated the binding of molecules on the surface of the cell membrane, suggesting a possible role in the mechanism of coupling cells and the immune system as a whole. The symposium discussed a number of topics, as it stressed the need for the glycans to mediate in the interactions between molecules and within molecules by adding polysaccharide chains to fats and proteins, similar to these other macromolecules, adding that RNA can also undergo fluidity and carry glycan structures.
