The Department of Chemistry at the College of Science has organized a cultural festival on the occasion of the World Arabic Language Day in the presence of the dean of the college, Prof. Dr. Abdul Karim al-Qazzaz as the representative of the rector of the University of Baghdad, the Deputy Mahdia al-Lami, member of the Services Committee in the Iraqi Parliament and Vice Chairman of the Supreme Committee for the Development and Modernization of Arabic Language Curricula at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Prof. Dr. Mohsen al-Furaiji.

At the onset of the festival, Dr. Abdul Karim Abdul Razzaq, gave a speech in which he stressed that “it is a matter of pride and pleasure that the department of chemistry holds such a special event in this day” added that “The establishment of such a festival in a college specialized in pure sciences and its curriculum in English is a message that expresses the interest of the University of Baghdad in its various formations and specializations, whether humanitarian or scientific, on a day that has a special character in the souls and hearts, which is the day of the Arabic language”.

For her part, the head of the department of chemistry, Assist. Professor Dr. Nada Al-Abdi, gave a speech in which she stressed that the Arabic language is the language of the Holy Qur’an, the book of God, which was revealed to His Holy Messenger (PBUH), more than fourteen centuries ago, indicating that celebrating it on this occasion is an official language by the United Nations General Assembly in 1973 is a cause of pride for all native speakers, calling on everyone to preserve and adhere to it as it is the most beautiful and wonderful language in the world.

It is noteworthy that the festival was attended by the Director of the Department of Studies, Planning and Follow-up at the presidency of the University and the dean’s assistants for administrative and student affairs, included a number of students who have participated in this event by reading poems that affirmed their pride in their mother tongue which is representing their national identity and the importance of preserving it and enhancing its role in transferring knowledge and science. At the conclusion of the celebration, certificates of appreciation were dedicated to the guests, professors and students, on the sidelines of an exhibition of plastic arts, calligraphy, decoration and handicrafts.
