In the Department of Biology at the College of Science, has witnessed a study on the relationship between autoimmune thyroiditis and some physiological criteria in a sample of Iraqi patients with type I diabetes that was presented by the student Hussein Ibrahim under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Makarim Qasim Dawood.

The research aimed to investigate the relationship between the vitamin D level and the autoimmune thyroid disorders found in a sample of Iraqi adult patients with type diabetes and to study the effect of some descriptive data (age, sex and body mass index) and clinical data (duration and complications) on the studied variables. The study also concluded that the dangers of thyroid antibodies lie in their effect on vitamin D, which may exacerbate the complications of diabetes, and the danger of vitamin D deficiency lies in its effect on the level of sugar in the blood, which makes it difficult to control high blood sugar, and it seems that thyroid antibody disorders are prevalent in women.
