The Biological Research Unit, in cooperation with the Continuing Education Unit at the College of Science, has organized a workshop entitled “Primer design and PCR troubleshooting” with the participation of a number of students, researchers and those interested in this topic aimed at introducing the participants to the theoretical, practical and applied aspects of the manufacture of primers and how to testing them in order to suit the research work in the field of molecular biology and the obstacles that the researcher may face during the conduct of polymerase chain reaction experiments.

The workshop was presented jointly by Assist. Prof. Dr. Ali Hafez Abbas, Assist. Prof. Dr. Fadel Muhammad Lafta and Assist. Prof. Dr. Amjad Qais Ibrahim, who highlighted aspects related to how to deal with designing primer system and its mechanism at the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) after being designed manually or theoretically, and the increasing need for researchers and postgraduate students in Iraqi universities to learn how to design them for the sake of diagnosing many diseases and pathogens, indicating the importance of their applications in forensic medicine, the most important solutions to be followed when facing any problem in polymerase chain reaction experiments.
