The Department of Geography, in cooperation with the Continuing Education Unit at the College of Education for Women held a scientific workshop on the (Problems and solutions of infrastructure services provided at the city of Baghdad). One of the most important problems suffered by people is that most areas of the city of Baghdad suffer from the scarcity of drinking water due to the increase in housing units and the process of connecting the residents to the net water network without obtaining official approvals from the relevant authorities which causes deposits in water network, and although the city of Baghdad is served by a sewage network, it suffers from weak efficiency, scarcity and fluctuation of the necessary electrical energy of water treatment as well as poor planned periodic maintenance.

The lecturers gave several important proposals in order to reduce the problems of lack of infrastructure services at Rusafa and Karkh, including the use of the latest scientific techniques in infrastructure projects, keeping pace with the global development in the field of electricity, sanitation, waste management, reducing horizontal expansion and residential fragmentation, in addition to encouraging vertical housing which occupies less space with a larger population density as a whole.
