The Department of Archaeology at the College of Arts at the University of Baghdad has organized a workshop entitled (Remote Sensing and the Concept of Visual Image in Archaeology), in the presence of a number of professors and researchers.

The workshop aimed that the study of the archaeological site must be preceded by archaeological surveys of the ground that precedes any excavation project so as not to expose the antiquities to destruction, after obtaining the approval of the competent authorities and the reconnaissance process can be completed by the usual methods such as test excavation and other surface methods, but such methods are expensive and a waste of effort and time. For this purpose, the archaeologists resorted to the use of modern techniques for digging the land by the use of a set of techniques called remote sensing, photography from space, flight methods, space-faring which has all facilitated the process of observing the globe and collecting information to analyzing them using the computer and some analysis programs.
