The Institute of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnologies for Postgraduate Studies at the University of Baghdad, has organized a scientific symposium entitled “Autoimmune diseases and their seriousness to the Iraqi community”.
The seminar aimed to introduce the immune system and the types of immune response according to its function in the human body, and to introduce genetic immune disorders and their genetic transmission in some families and the extent of their seriousness within families. The workshop dealt with the causes of autoimmune diseases, risk factors for infection and people most susceptible to such diseases, common symptoms of autoimmune diseases and the problems faced by the patients physically and psychologically and the role of genes, heredity factors and the environment in their transmission. The lecturers recommended paying attention to healthy food and vitamins, especially the vitamin D, and staying away from fast food, sugars and soft drinks.
