The Department of Home Economics in cooperation with the Continuing Education Unit at the College of Education for Women held the workshop about “Bullying and mental health for affected children” that was given by the Prof. Dr. (Afraa Ibrahim al-Obeidi) in the presence of a number of professors, staff and students.

The workshop aimed to address the phenomenon of cyberbullying because it poses a threat and a great danger for the affected children that is a new type of bullying practiced against children at an early age and that can be defined as the exploitation of modern technological means of communication in its various channels in directing deliberate and aggressive psychological abuse against a certain age group, namely the children under eighteen years old. The lecturer stated that frustrating words or other behaviors can have a very bad impact on the child’s psychology and this act can happen through a number of means including smartphones or social networking sites. She even recommended to address this trend by the development of treatment programs for the victims of this act by focusing on self-esteem, social adaptation, and individual interpersonal skills including flexibility, decision-making skills, conflict resolution skills, communication style and the development of preventive programs against bullying in schools through teaching the child to how to behave in such situations and changing privacy settings of email and social media accounts.
