The Department of Biotechnology at the College of Science, has organized a lecture entitled “Measurement of Flow Cytometry: Principles and Applications” that was delivered by Dr. Wasan Aboud Hassoun in the presence of a number of students and those concerned with the biological affairs. The lecture aimed to provide an explanation of the main components of the flow cytometry tool in the measurement of multiple properties of cells or individual particles in order to analyze them when they pass through the laser beam besides other applications based on this technology.

The lecturer discussed how to measure the properties of light dispersion of cells and particles, as well as the properties of fluorescent, especially if the cells are bound to antibodies with fluorescent markers, targeting internal or superficial molecules, indicating that this device has many applications in the field of  calculating the types of white blood cells in case of infectious diseases, autoimmune disorders or immunodeficiency, or in the diagnosis of leukemia or gland cancer, so there is a possibility of making use of this tool as an alternative to other laboratory tests.
