The University of Baghdad has launched recently its digital repository of scientific output in its initial phase, which includes research published in all university’s academic journals with more than 27000 published research papers, while in its following phases, research published in international journals in addition dissertations and patents will be open access to scholars. With this quest, the University of Baghdad seeks to provide a unified portal to increase the number of citations that may in turn contribute in raising the university’s status in global rankings.

It is noteworthy that this digital repository has several technical and scientific features, including reliance on Elasticsearch engine for all types of data, which provides accurate search results and advanced analytics. The repository is also characterized by its programmatic linking with Open Journal Systems (OJS), systems for university journals, ORCID website, auto synchronization, as well as many other global websites and indexes (Scopus, Clarivate Analytics, Crossref & Dimensions and PlumX Metrics). The repository provides the possibility of identifying relevant research and exporting citations in more than 2000 global styles. It also offers the possibility of sharing research through several online channels, along with providing different statistics on the volume of access to each research and the citations that are obtained within global containers and indexes. The Website Division of the University of Baghdad, which has developed this service, is working on to add a number of other characteristics in the near future and it welcomes any observations and suggestions that will develop its work and seeks to be a model for electronic systems developed by other Iraqi universities.
