The college of medicine has recently organized an interesting conference for the students of undergraduate studies under the auspices of the rector of the University of Baghdad, Prof. Munir Hamid al-Saadi, and the dean of the college, Prof. Dr. Ali Kamel al-Shalji, under the slogan “With the scientific research, we open up prospects for the advancement of medicine despite the challenges). The conference, which opened with verses from Quran and reading Surah al-Fatiha for the souls of martyrs and the national anthem, was attended by the assistant rector for scientific affairs, Prof. Dr. Marwan Abdul Hamid, as the representative of the rector and WHO representative to Iraq, Dr. Ahmed Zouiten, the director of Baghdad Teaching Hospital, Dr. Ali Abbas, representing the Baghdad Medical City, and the member of the Iraqi Parliament, Mr. Yonadam Yousip Kanna.

During the opening speech, the dean of the college stressed the importance of holding the annual research conference for students of undergraduate studies to provide student research competencies and open up prospects for participating in local and international scientific forums. Dr. Ali al-Shalji pointed out during his speech that this event witnessing a large number of research papers, exhibitions of drawings presented by students in addition to a range of pharmaceutical products sponsored by Aflofarm pharmaceutical companies in Poland. The conference also included speeches by the assistant rector for scientific affairs and the representative of the World Health Organization in Iraq along with a speech by the representative of the fourth-grade students Ahmed Qassim Mahmoud, who praised the legacy of this Iraqi academic edifice and celebrating its pioneer achievements in the medical field since 96 years back to its founding in 1927. It is noteworthy that the proceedings of this event included several scientific sessions chaired by a group of faculty professors in various disciplines, namely basic and clinical medical sciences, including medical research on Covid-19 pandemic.
