The department of chemistry at the college of science held its cultural festival to mark the World Arabic Language Day in the presence of the rector of the University of Baghdad, Prof. Dr. Munir Hamid al-Saadi and his assistant for scientific affairs, Prof. Marwan Abdul Hamid Ashour as well as the representative of the Media and Communications Authority Prof. Ahmed al-Anzi. The rector stated during his speech that the Arabic language is the language of the Holy Quran, the book of God, given to the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) more than fourteen centuries ago, and today we celebrate this event on the occasion of its selection of an official language by the UN General Assembly in 1973, calling on everyone to preserve it as being the most beautiful and wonderful language among the different languages of the world.

Then the dean of the college, Prof. Dr. Abdul Karim Abdul Razaq, delivered a speech in which he stressed that it is the pride and pleasure of the department of chemistry to hold this annual festival in Arabic although the college is specialized in pure sciences and that its curriculum is in English, but it is a message that expresses the interest of the University of Baghdad at all its formations and disciplines to celebrate our Arabic language that touches hearts and souls. The ceremony included a number of events, speeches and poems read by students glorifying the mother tongue, which expresses our national identity, in addition to the attendance of the granddaughter of the great Iraqi poet Muhammad Mahdi al-Jawahiri, a number of professors, guests, heads of departments and students with the opening of an exhibition of paintings, Arabic calligraphy & decoration.
