Prof. Dr. Ishaq Saleh al-Akam, dean of the college of education for women has concluded recently a new memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) represented by the UNICEF Iraq Deputy Representative, Ms. Paula Bulancea, as part of UNICEF efforts to strengthen relations and developing partnerships with Iraqi universities and other scientific or educational institutions. The two parties agreed on addressing key issues affecting the Iraqi society, which has been subjected to successive crises and the challenges that have negatively affected children.

This memorandum of understanding included three strategic areas: focusing on producing research papers on the rights and development of children, adolescents, and youth; organizing seminars and conferences about issues of children’s rights and development; and to prepare, present and institutionalize training courses for researchers in all areas related to child development. It is noteworthy that the UNICEF also stressed on considering the children’s rights as a primary goal and its tries to ensure full rights for Iraqi children in health, education, water, environmental reform and social protection. Such an agreement is the result of urgent calls to build programs and plans that will put the authorities and society in front of crucial choices in accordance with well-thought-out policies and programs to develop human potential, hoping to conclude similar agreements in the coming years that will serve childhood in Iraq.
