Dr. Shukria al-Sarraj, a professor from the college of media at the University of Baghdad published a joint paper with the researcher Mustafa Fares Ali entitled “The function of Iraqi digital journalism in shaping the trends of the public at Baghdad towards the local political issues”. The aim of this article is to comprehend the role of digital media in reflecting social phenomena such as demonstrations, parliamentary & provincial council elections, the state budget and its repercussions, Iraq’s relations with the neighboring countries, the sessions of the Iraqi parliament, the relationship between the federal government and the Kurdistan region of Iraq.

Also the researchers discussed the relationship between the following demographic variables (gender, age, social status, educational attainment, working status and housing) and the degree to which respondents rely on digital journalism for getting information about certain political issues at the local level and the way they interact with. The researchers recommended that the Iraqi electronic newspapers should develop their sites so that the public can present their opinions since people have become involved in content sharing.
