Assist. Prof. Assist. Prof. Khalida Hamid Tisgam, a lecturer from the department of English language at the college of education for women has translated and published a long poetic text in ArabLit Quarterly issued in London and emerged in 2018 from the community around the ArabLit website and Bulaq podcast. It aims to bring out beautiful literary translations from Arabic, fresh work by Arab artists, and also new forms of literary criticism and other Arabic literary masterpieces, including poems, plays, short stories, novels of Naguib Mahfouz online and in paper form so as to introduce the Arab culture and civilization to foreign readers.
It is noteworthy that Prof. Khalida Hamid won the Literary Translation Initiative Award 2017 at the London Book Fair and that the aforementioned poem dealt with the theme of terrorism, which tried to destroy Iraq after the devastation caused by the former regime. The poem describes that bitter situation, its pains and sorrows in a modernist language that reflects the hardships that our beloved country went through at the time, which has now been overtaken and our nation has regained its strength and luminous image once again thanks to the sacrifices of our good sons.
