The department of biotechnology, in collaboration with Ibn Sina unit for e-learning and the continuing education unit at the college of science has organized an virtual scientific seminar entitled “Covid-19 vaccines: scientific facts and rumors” with the participation of a number of students, professors and specialists in medical and pharmaceutical disciplines.

The lecturers were delivered by Dr. Abdullah Hussein and Dr. Ali Abdul Hussein Kazim, from the University of Graz, Austria with the aim to identify a number of vaccines available in Iraq such as AstraZeneca, Pfizer-BioNTech, Sinopharm, Johnson and Johnsons, which have proven effective in protecting against this disease, reducing the severity and duration of symptoms, so that the patient’s condition is not to deteriorate and to stop infection. Also this event witnessed many discussions to refute any confusion or fears related to vaccines in the face of this pandemic that changed the lives of all humanity, causing human and economic losses, in light of its new variants that have left millions of people infected and thousands of deaths. The lecturers also highlighted that the individuals when being vaccinated can not be admitted to hospital or intensive care, even if they were infected again, then the professors provided an explanation of the work of vaccines and the urgent need to combat any rumors that have widespread in the country and to encourage our people to protect themselves and their families.
