The Institute of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnologies for Postgraduate Studies at the University of Baghdad held a virtual workshop entitled “Professional safety in laboratories” with the aim to increase the awareness of staff and students regarding the need for paying attention to safety measures when doing experiments in labs and to comprehend the seriousness of each chemical compounds and electrical devices, since a lot of materials and liquids may be toxic or irritants of membranes and substances, which is incendiary or fast-burning. The lecturers also recommended following instructions when dealing with such chemical or electrical hazards as well as wearing face masks to protect the eyes, gloves, bra and protective shoes to protect the body from spilled chemicals.
