The department of Arabic language at the college of arts organized a scientific lecture entitled “Talks on Glossematics” in the presence of the director of the Iraqi Linguistics Association, Prof. Dr. Kareem Hussein Naseed, and the head of department, Prof. Dr. Mohammed Abdul Mashkoor, with a number of professors and researchers.

The aim of the lecture was to talk about the root of the term “Glossematics” and how it has emerged at the hands of the Danish linguistic Hjelmslev and the Copenhagen School and the relationship between language and mathematical logic. The attendees interacted with what was presented in the lecture by discussing their observations in this topic. At the conclusion of this lecture, the dean of the college dedicated books of thanks and appreciation to the participating researchers. It is noteworthy that “Glosseme” is defined as the smallest irreducible unit of both the content and expression planes of language; it is nearly identical to the phoneme and it is the smallest unit of meaning which underlies a concept.
