The college of pharmacy at the University of Baghdad has organized recently an electronic awareness seminar entitled “Negative effects and risks of drug abuse” via Zoom platform. The lectures were delivered by the lecturer Dr. Lubna Abdul Karim from the Drugs and Medicinal Plants Branch and the lecturer Duha Abdul Sahib from the Pharmaceutics Branch and who is in charge of the Psychological and Moral Guidance Unit, in the presence of a group of representatives of the ministry of health & environment and the ministry of interior.

The lecturers dealt with the health and psychological harms of drug abuse and some prevention methods, as well as the role of security agencies in Iraq in controlling and monitoring cases of abuse or smuggling, in light of the drug-related sanctions in the Iraqi law. Finally, the director of community police, Colonel Ghaleb al-Attiyah, and the Captain Basma Mizel talked about the role of community police in the fight against narcotic drugs, as well as they exchanged points of views with the audience in many questions regarding the role of students and faculty members in spreading health awareness in the community and how to deal with such cases in future.
