Prof. Dr. Athraa Ismail Zidan, the director of the center for women’s studies at the University of Baghdad has participated recently in a conference sponsored by the Department of Women’s Empowerment at the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers. The participants in this event announced the launch of a plan to support women’s political participation in the elections to the House of Representatives, where Dr. Athraa Ismail stressed the need for empowering Iraqi women through contribution in the process of political decision-making and in the management of public affairs, based on their fundamental right in the participation in elections and to vote freely under the protection of the law since it is a right stipulated in international conventions and conventions.

She added that the center for women’ studies had organized several seminars and symposiums, based on its functions and responsibilities, to support women particularly in the coming Iraqi elections. It is noteworthy that the Secretary-General of the Council of Ministers has issued a cabinet order to form a committee that will oversee women’s active participation in this regard to follow-up relevant procedures with the sectoral authorities responsible for implementation, coordination with the Supreme Council of Women in the Kurdistan Region and the civil society organizations.
