The Biological Research Unit for Hot Areas in collaboration with Ibn Sina unit for e-learning and the continuing education unit at the college of science at the University of Baghdad organized a virtual seminar entitled “The risks of aflatoxin to human health” chaired by Assist. Prof. Dr. Sinaa Walid Mohammed Saeed with the participation of a number of students, professors and researchers interested in medical, pharmaceutical, biological and chemical affairs from inside and outside the university. The seminar witnessed contribution of specialists in agriculture and biology aimed to introduce this toxic metabolic composite produced by aspergillus mushrooms that are genetically capable of emerging when they have certain environmental and nutritional conditions.

The lecturer stated that the Aflatoxin B1 is known as one of the most the most known toxins that cause serious diseases and it is resistant to be get rid of by the traditional thermal processes used in manufacturing food, noting that it also spreads rapidly from mushroom colonies and warned that its cumulative effects on human beings appear after years of eating contaminated food also the immune system can not detect its symptoms and there is no pharmacological treatment to reduce its impact, thus it is considered as a global health disaster.
