The department of biological technologies, in coordination with Ibn Sina units for e-learning and the continuing education unit at the University of Baghdad organized a virtual scientific symposium entitled “Drugs: positive and negative aspects” with the participation of a number of students, professors and those concerned with medical, pharmaceutical and chemical affairs inside and outside the university. The aim of this event was to introduce the types of drugs & narcotic plants, the concept of addiction and its causes, as well as the effects of drugs on all aspects of individuals’ life in terms of health, social, psychological and legal behaviors, with a special reference to the digital drugs.

The lectures were delivered by Assist. Prof. Dr. Shaimaa Razak Ibrahim, Assist. Prof. Dr. Odeh Hassan Ibrahim, and Assist. Prof. Dr. Aseel Shaker Mahmoud, who identified a range of substances that cause addiction via poisoning the nervous system, pointing out that the word “anesthetic” is called to anything that causes lack of reason, because it contains chemicals that lead to drowsiness, sleep or lack of consciousness, pointing out that drugs are dangerous and deadly scourges that have recently begun to spread in communities more than before, and it’s become a threat to individuals since they may lead to the collapse of society and chaos in any nation.
