Assist. Prof. Dr. Abdul Halim Rahim Ali, the dean of the college of arts at the University of Baghdad has received recently Mrs. Irena Vojáčková-Sollorano, the Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Iraq & Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator for Sustainable Development Goals to discuss the college’s interest to implement awareness campaigns on the 17th desired sustainable development goals until 2023.

The two sides discussed how Iraq can provide education for everyone and how to  achieve the internationally millennium development goals agreed upon as well as other far-reaching gains since most countries have used these goals as objectives and criteria to mobilize local political will towards reform and improve their educational systems, while donors have used them to bring their policies and priorities for providing development assistance in education in line with international goals, so as to enhance the future of our educational plans at the local level.

The discussions focused on the technology-led world, how it is changing and its imposed increasing burdens on learners, teachers, businesses and even governments, where knowledge-based economies require new types and levels of skills and competencies and the need for reducing the knowledge gap among people. Mrs. Irena Vojáčková-Sollorano stated in her speech that the UNESCO has adopted an unequivocal position that the best way to address these enormous challenges we face nowadays is through an ambitious and transformative educational plan that can be of utmost global importance and applicable in all countries regardless of their development status, as well as calling for a comprehensive humanitarian vision for rights-based education characterized with an expanded perspective for lifelong learning in order to enable people to activate their right to learn and educate themselves permanently.
