Dr. Athraa Ismail, director of the women’s studies center at the University of Baghdad has participated recently in the meeting of the strategic working group for economic empowerment held to discuss the basic directions of Iraq’s plans for women’s economic empowerment in its second phase for the period (July 2021 to June 2022) chaired by the Director General of the Iraqi Women’s Empowerment Department at the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers, Dr. Yusra Karim Mohsen.

During the meeting, the participants addressed all matters related to how to empower women economically in accordance with the priorities of the Iraqi Government, focusing on meeting their urgent needs, especially the displaced and rural women. They also discussed the pillars and activities of this action plan, some proposed implementation procedures, stakeholders and key partners. The members presented several recommendations, including that any communication or coordination in this regard is to be exclusively exchanged between the World Bank and the national coordinator of this project, represented by the Director General of the Iraqi Women’s Empowerment Department at the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers.
