The department of sociology at the college of education for women has organized a virtual scientific symposium entitled (Social work in crises: challenges and opportunities) in the presence of a number of faculty members via Google Meet service with the aim to highlight the problems and crises faced by communities and the role of social work in addressing them. The professors talked about the need for developing and activating the role of social specialists in the face of common issues, as well as to discuss contemporary social variables in conjunction with the Coronavirus pandemic and its vivid repercussions that affected everyone and to find solutions that contribute to accepting the current reality and coexist with the external environmental factors we encounter.
This event witnessed the presentation of a number of research papers submitted by researchers from various Iraqi universities, who exchanged visions about social work as a practice-based profession concerned with individuals, families, groups and communities in an effort to meet basic needs and enhance collective responsibility and overall well-being. The symposium was concluded with a number of recommendations that stressed the need for coordination and cooperation with local and international relief organizations for the sake of bringing about fundamental change in society.
