The department of public policy, in partnership with the translation unit at the center for strategic and international studies held a workshop entitled (Violence of language and the language of violence: Iraqi political discourse after 2003), presented by the director of the unit, the senior chief translator Samira Ibrahim Abdul Rahman.

The lecturer at first defined the concept of language where the authority of society lies within the authority of language, as it is the most important social institution that controls the members of any community, then referring to the concept of violence, its characteristics & intertwined expressions, with a reference to the vocabulary related to the Iraqi reality. Then she discussed how people practice verbal violence and repression when dealing with each other, also she addressed many topics that dealt with the direct relationship between the violence of political discourse and the high rates of corruption and the essential causes of the Iraqi violent political discourse after 2003 and ways to overcome the phenomenon of extremist political discourse to create a national political environment in the country.
