The college of pharmacy at the University of Baghdad organized recently an electronic workshop entitled “Magnesium: the magic element and its natural sources” chaired by Assist. Lecturer Zahra Suhail Nasser from the department of drugs and medicinal plants, via Zoom software program. At first the lecturer identified magnesium as an important mineral, playing a role in over 300 enzyme reactions in the human body in a way that helps the muscle and nerve functions, namely regulating blood pressure and supporting the immune system.
Then she presented an overview about its importance in our lives, how to know if a person suffers from magnesium deficiency and a detailed explanation on its natural sources, proportion in food categories rich in minerals and vitamins to improve health conditions as well as its great benefits in the treatment and prevention of many diseases. At the conclusion of the workshop, the lecturer talked about the best supplements, especially those containing this magic ingredient and the need to consult a specialist before taking them to get the desired outcome.
