The department of home economics, in collaboration with the continuing education unit at the college of education for women held a virtual workshop entitled “Healthy food is your guide to good health under the Covid-19 pandemic” presented by Prof. Fatima Faiq Juma and Assist. Prof. Widad Fadel Abbas via the Google Meet service.

The workshop aimed to introduce the importance of a healthy balanced diet in the prevention of Coronavirus disease and to highlight some nutritional guidelines to keep a healthy body in general. The lecturers first identified healthy foods are those which provide body with the nutrients needed to sustain well-being and retain energy, including water, carbohydrates, fat, protein, vitamins, and minerals. Then they talked about the role of consuming healthy food on the immune system, so individuals should eat a variety of fresh and unprocessed foods to get vitamins, minerals, dietary fiber, protein and antioxidants, along with avoiding sugar, fat and salt to reduce the risk of overweight, obesity, heart disease, stroke and diabetes.
