The department of biology at the college of science, in collaboration with Ibn Sina e-learning and continuing education units at the University of Baghdad has organized recently a workshop on “Aromatic Plants” with the participation of a number of students and those interested with agricultural and chemical affairs. The workshop was administrated by Prof. Dr. Iyad Wajih Raouf, Assist. Prof. Dr. Essraa Abdul Razzaq Majid, Lecturer Ali Muayad and Dr. Lamia Abdul Zahra with the aim to highlight the most important aromatic plant species found in Iraq and their great importance in our daily lives as being used in food or treatment. The lecturers then addressed matters related to the origin of these active substances, including a range of aromatic herbs and the ways of oil extraction and perfume industry as well as other factors affecting their production and cultivation.
