The Joint Disease Research Unit at the college of veterinary medicine sponsored a virtual workshop transmitted via the Google classroom service entitled “Fungi used in purification of environment” delivered by the lecturer DR. Zainab Abdul Zahraa with the aim to identify the role of environmentally friendly fungi in reducing pollution by bioremediation technology which involves the use of living organisms like microbes and plants to reduce, eliminate and transform contaminants present in soils, sediments and water for the maximum removal of inorganic and organic contaminants.

The lecturer stated that this technique is regarded as a process for recycling animal and plant harmful wastes found in nature for reuse and utilization, as well as other industrial or biological residues in the safest and least costly ways to improve the environment and bring back its necessary elements such as carbon, nitrogen and potassium which would result in making the required changes in the ecological system essential for all creatures.
