The college of arts organized recently the 12th Iraqi-Japanese Virtual Conference held under the slogan “Japan and the Arab World: from Oil to Culture” in collaboration with the college of arts at Al-Mustansiriyah University and Chiba University in Japan.

The conference was attended and sponsored by Prof. Dr. Munir Hamid al-Saadi, rector of the University of Baghdad, Prof. Dr. Hamid Fadhil al-Tamimi, rector of Al-Mustansiriyah University, Mr. Kotaro Suzuki, the Japanese Ambassador to Iraq, the Chargé d’affaires of the embassy Mr. Thubian Hassan and Mr. Hideki Matsunaga, Chief Representative of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) of the Middle East and Europe with a host of professors and specialists.

The chairman of the preparatory committee, Dr. Mahmoud Abdul Wahid Mahmoud al-Qaisi stated during his speech that the conference aimed to extend the bilateral relations between Japan and Arab world in the fields of culture, history and oil industries. The participants addressed matters related to gender diversity in the two countries as well as the Iraqi politics from the Iraqi-Japanese perspectives and the future plans for teaching Japanese in Iraq along with initiatives for translation of common literary works.
