The department of home economics at the college of education for women held its first scientific symposium for the academic year (2020-2021) entitled (the role of home economics in light of Coronavirus pandemic). The lecturers addressed the challenges faced in the country towards the most prominent implications of the current pandemic as well as to identify the most important social initiatives made in this regard and the most vivid manifestations of social solidarity among people at the present time.
They also stressed the need for more concern to the escalating risks and threats to the Iraqi family and recommended to take effective steps to mitigate the effects of gender on the response to this epidemic in order to ensure that there is no gender differentiation between people. At last, the professors recommended that the family should not rely on ready-made food to reduce the time out of home as well as to have frozen, dried or canned vegetables as an alternative to fresh food when necessary and to develop a set of preventive plans and measures to reduce domestic violence by raising awareness and providing psychological and social support or counseling to prevent any violence towards women and children.
