The department of earth sciences, in collaboration with Ibn Sina e-learning and continuing education units at the college of science has organized an online lecture entitled ” Earth’s magnetic field and life evolution” via Free Conference Call website with the participation of a number of students and professors specialized in physics, astronomy and geology.

The lecture was delivered by the geophysicist Prof. Dr. Bassim Rushdi Hijab with the purpose of identifying some modern concepts about the relationship of the earth’s magnetic field to the development of life, with a reference to the spread of Coronavirus pandemic rapidly in some areas more than others. Dr. Bassim Rushdi stated that in such cases there is a growing possibility that the living organisms may be exposed to solar wind that causes corrosion of the atmosphere, explaining that the solar wind is loaded with harmful charged particles which, as it approaches the earth, are displaced by the magnetic field to the atmosphere.
