The joint disease research unit at the college of veterinary medicine held a workshop on “The most important fungal products useful for humans” with the aim to introduce the most positive aspects of fungi in terms of their use as food, as well as their contribution in drugs that treat bacterial and fungal infections, along with their effects on viral and parasitic infections as anti-cancers, namely “Ergot” that can produce a range of hormones to precipitate childbirth.

Then the lecturers talked about the use of fungi in the production of insulin-like substance by a combination of enzymes, organic acids and vitamins essential in various food and pharmaceutical industries. At last, the veterinarians shed light on the effect of fungi as very important factors in the biogeochemical cycle in nature to get rid of tons of waste that might cause harm to living organisms and pollute the environment.
