The department of biotechnology, in collaboration with the continuing education unit at the college of science held a scientific symposium entitled “Dioxin and its effects on human health” in the presence of a number on students, researchers and specialists in the biological, medical and chemical affairs.  This event aimed to identify the toxic and dangerous nature of this man-made chemical compound and to address its environmental and industrial sources and its multiple risks to human beings by its accumulation in the tissues of living organisms.

The lecturers gave an introduction of dioxins which are characterized by their belonging to the so-called “dirty group” and “persistent organic pollutants” for their high ability to cause poisoning in humans, animals and organs of the body through their long-term stability and ease of absorption and accumulation in the food chain as well.
