The University of Baghdad hosted recently the events of the environmental awareness program targeted towards planting one million trees in Baghdad sponsored by the department of research and development at the ministry of higher education and scientific research in cooperation with the planning and follow-up department at the ministry of health and environment with the aim to spread the culture of afforestation, protect plant diversity, food and water security in Iraq.

It is noteworthy that this initiative organized by the college of agricultural engineering sciences adhered any projects that might develop sustainable development and maintain a healthy green environment by taking advantage of green spaces and fisheries to formulate a clear vision for 2030. This event witnessed the participation of the rector Prof. Dr. Munir Hamid al-Saadi and his associate for administrative affairs who announced the launch of the environmental challenge initiative for a safe planet along with solidarity with international organizations interested in sustainable development. A number of deans, directors of centers and students of agriculture also planted a number of seedlings produced in the nurseries of the University of Baghdad under the supervision of the horticultural division.
