Dr. Ali Ismail Ibrahim, an assistant professor at the orthodontic branch was honored at the celebration of the Iraqi Science Day for his patent entitled (Orthodontic Bracket Etchant Composition and Use Thereof) after being approved by the International Federation of Inventors’ Associations (IFIA) in 2017 in UK and in 2018 in Switzerland to be the first global achievement of its kind in the field of orthodontics.

The aim of this research is to invent a new material derived from the composition of the tooth (phosphate and calcium) of an acid characteristic that can increase the surface energy of the tooth, thereby helps to stabilize the brackets without any collateral damage. This treatment might be often accompanied by the appearance of white spots on the surface of the teeth as well as when lifting of orthodontic brackets, resulting in a fracture or crack in the surface of the tooth or additional scratches.
