Department of petroleum engineering is hosting a lecture for the French company of Schlumberger
Under the auspices of Dr. Qasim Mohammed Dos Dean of the college of engineering, department of petroleum engineering hosted a lecture for the tagged French oil company of schlumberger ( schlumberger past, presenting and engineering graduators ) at the invitation of the department of petroleum engineering of the company and was agreed upon at a meeting between assistant professor Dr. Maha Raouf Abdulamir head of petroleum engineering and Mr. Amr Moussa, general manager of schlumberger in Iraq on the sidelines of the Iraq’s second conference and forum of power to establish a seminar about the company and its historical roots in Iraq ,where the company collaborated with the department of petroleum since 2003, providing the department with books and software to develop their curriculum, and training students in Iraq, Syria and Egypt .
A meeting between Mr. Dean of the engineering college , Ms. Head of petroleum engineering and Mr. general manager of schlumberger in Iraq . And during this meeting many important points were approved od cooperation between our college and schlumberger French company, this comes within the context of frequent meetings between the both sides and within the communication between our college and the labor sector to provide jobs for its graduates and that the college beliefs in the private sector to contribute in development and reconstruction of Iraq and discussed the possibility of both sides cooperation to arrange an exhibition for a wide range of companies and hosted by the college to identify these companies and create jobs for college graduates with these companies and to promote a policy of working with the private sector and re-consider the idea of dependency on public sector employment .
And the lecture was given by Mr. Amr Moussa, director of the company in Iraq, a graduate of the American university in Beirut and holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and has versatility of invention in the field of specialization, he has joined the company in 1990 and worked in more than eighteen countries, including Iraq, Bahrain, and Tunisia.
The seminar was attended by Mr. Dean, Mr. Dean assistant for administrative and finance affairs, Mr. dean assistant for students affairs and heads of departments of electrical engineering , mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, water resources engineering, survey engineering, electronic engineering , communications engineering and director of continuing education in the college and a large number of professors and students for all scientific departments in the college .
Mr. Amr moussa submitted thanks to Mr. Dean and the department of petroleum for their cooperation in the establishment of this lecture and the rule of youth in building Iraq and the company’s readiness for cooperating with the college to develop their abilities and skills because they are the interface of Iraq and praised the mentality of Iraqi engineer and they are the top always in the courses held by their company as owned by abundance of information has always sought to develop college curricula for the graduate engineer is able to efficiently keep up with evolution .
In an interview on the history of the company and how it was founded , Mr. Amr moussa explained that the company was founded in 1927 and began work in Iraq 1937 – 1938 , only after ten years of its establishment.so their roots are strong in Iraq , where the company has worked in Baghdad , Kirkuk and Basrah, and also the company served in drilling seismic survey ,the drilling of wells , the work of reservoir models , well perforation, well stimulation , and operations of artificial lift . also the company has worked with most of the large global corporations in the world .
The company was founded by two persons , a physicist and an engineer , and the purpose of its establishment was for the purpose of researches and away from any financial purpose . and the company believes till now that the brains and technology generate profits .and after 1930 the company began to work outside France and it grew due to its efforts as well as combining with other companies to buy these companies and their work became developing fields completely and two years ago, schlumberger bought competitor company with 12 million dollar .
And the company has 110,000 thousand employees from 140 countries and operates in 80 countries and trained 5000 engineers of 48 nationalities, and the mix of nationalities creates the spirit of competition as well as cultural exchange and provides an opportunity to learn from others, and in Basra, currently there are 470 employees working with.And explained that the company’s policy in the recruitment of engineers plans as an example to employ 100 engineers from Iraq dispersion rate of 70% are working in Iraq and send 30% of them abroad to learn the technology and get more experience and to get them out of the local environment and encourage them to focus in the work environment and thus structure to develop leadership abilities to help him and he has to make decisions and encourage the company to learn and gain skills in the oil sector because this sector will continue to be the world’s need for urgent in light of oil products in the world population increase and expansion in the industrial sectors.
Then open Dr. Mohammed Al- Jawad, who ran the seminar dialogue and explained that the company’s investment in the development of a great engineer. In a question of Mr. Dean to Mr. Amr Moussa, the level of engineers from college graduates who have worked in the company and had answered Mr. Amr Moussa, said Iraqi engineer gets the grades in the first training Instruments and development among his peers and has the ability to learn and adapt to the situation.
At the end of the seminar, Mr. Dean of the College honored Mr. Amr Moussa, a certificate of appreciation and thanked his presence and spoke highly of the lecture tariff of the company and wished them progress and success and confirmed that the doors of college are always open for cooperation with thanks and thanked the head of petroleum engineering associate professor Dr. Maha Raouf Abdulamir for an effective role in continuing to make the college is open to cooperation with international oil companies, especially in light of getting ranked by Petroleum Engineering Department this year topping the list of acceptance of the central engineering departments at the level of Iraq.
