Market Research and Consumer Protection Center Discusses Risks of Illegal Migration, Its Repercussions, and Ways to Strengthen National Belonging

The Market Research and Consumer Protection Center organized an awareness seminar on the risks of illegal migration, its repercussions, and ways to strengthen national belonging, in cooperation with the Ministry of Migration and Displaced Persons and the International Organization for Migration, with the participation of a select group of specialists and representatives of the relevant bodies. The seminar aimed to highlight the risks of illegal migration and its consequences and to raise public awareness of the importance of citizenship and national belonging.

The seminar was presented by Najla Adnan Kadhim, representative of the Directorate of Military Affairs for Civil Purposes at the Ministry of Defense; Osama Hamoudat, representative of the International Organization for Migration; and Shahad Al-Dujaili, representative of the German Agency for International Cooperation. They addressed a range of issues related to migration, its risks, and its humanitarian, social, and developmental dimensions.

The seminar comprised three main themes. The first addressed “The Rule of Law and Human Rights as Pillars of Citizenship in Confronting Illegal Migration,” the second addressed “Migration and Sustainable Development,” and the third was devoted to “Regular Migration and Available Legal Pathways,” in order to highlight the importance of safe legal options for migration and to raise awareness of regular procedures and pathways.

In his speech at the opening of the seminar, the Director of the Market Research and Consumer Protection Center, Dr. Mahmoud Abdullah Jassim, affirmed that the importance of the seminar lies in raising awareness of the risks and repercussions of illegal migration, correcting misconceptions, and informing young people of the legitimate alternatives and available opportunities that enable them to build their futures in safe and legal ways.

This activity contributes to achieving a number of the Sustainable Development Goals, namely Goal 4 (Quality Education) and Goal 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions), in addition to Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
