Faculty of medicine inaugurates the electron microscope unit

Faculty of medicine at University of Baghdad inaugurated the unit of electron microscope/Anatomy branch for training postgraduate students on modern techniques and their medical uses in the presence of the president of Baghdad University, Prof. Dr. Alaa Abdul Hussein Abdul Rasool and dean of the college, Prof. Dr. Ali Al-Shalji as well as a number of professors. The electron microscope is considered as one of the most accurate inventions in the field of examination of cells or viruses compared to optical microscopes used in which the power of discrimination of optical microscopes exceeds 2000% zoom, so the image of the sample becomes unclear or foggy. The electron microscope is of two types, the first one is the penetrating microscope that transfers information through a very tiny sample slide and the lenses zoom images view them while the second one is the scanner electron microscope that transfers images in a magnified way that the samples do not need to be cut in slices but being sprayed with a thin metal coating that would send a bunch of electrons towards a fluorescent screen or a photographic plate that zooms images to hundred thousand times but in which the samples cannot be seen alive.
