Faculty of physical education and sports science sponsors the victory festival 


Faculty of physical education and sports science at University of Baghdad hosted the first Victory Festival for the documentary films on the occasion of the liberation of Mosul from the ISIS terrorist gangs, under the patronage of His Excellency the minister of higher education and scientific research Prof. Dr. Abdul Razaq al-Issa with the assistance of Al Mamun College University under the banner “with the blood of our martyrs, the future blooms”. His Excellency the minister of higher education and scientific research gave the opening speech of this event stating that Iraq is not isolated from the countries and peoples of the world since it has a cultural and civilizational presence not possessed by other countries and that time had come to document the victories of our heroes of the security forces and the popular crowd. He added that the ministry will take on the task of building the human being and reproducing the values that have broken out in the dark era of ISIS by organizing such cultural festivals and forums that might contribute in strengthening of our position in international community and that the ministry is keen to have the Iraqi universities present in the post-liberation stage, stressing that the victory achieved in Mosul is the fruit of the efforts and sacrifices made by all Iraqi people and State institutions. The festival was attended by president of University of Baghdad Prof. Dr. Alaa Abdul Hussein, his associate for administrative affairs, Prof. Dr. Riyad Khalil Khammas as well as several academic and cultural personalities. This event witnessed presentation of documentary films that embodied life in pre and post liberation of Mosul and some media professionals were honored who contributed in documenting the liberation battles there where University of technology won the first place award for the documentary film named (Will of the people) wile University of Babylon won the second place for the documentary (Partial eclipse) and University of Sumer won the third place for its documentary (Diary of a displaced student).

Counselor of the British embassy visits the college of education for women


Dean of the college of education for women Prof. Dr. Shurouq Kazim Salman received the counselor of the British embassy, Natalie Altmore to keep abreast with the history of the college and its departments as well as its mission and objectives. The dean of the college shed light in her speech on the activities carried out during the current academic year such as the cultural conferences, seminars, workshops, sports activities and art galleries. Through the meeting, the Chancellor expressed her appreciation of the college quest for developing the students’ personalities and skills through involvement in such courses.

Faculty of education (Ibn al-Haitham) holds a heritage exhibit


Cultural relations unit at the faculty of education for pure sciences (Ibn al-Haitham) at University of Baghdad held a heritage exhibition in the events of the Iraqi heritage week and in cooperation with the cultural museum and Al-Mishkat Association for Heritage and Culture. This exhibition included a number of paintings depicting the historical legacy of the Mesopotamia civilization over different periods.


President of University of Baghdad visits the German University of Fribourg


President of University of Baghdad Prof. Dr. Alaa Abdul Hussein and his entourage visited University of Freiburg, Germany where he met the rector of University of Fribourg, Mr. Klaus where the two sides discussed how to improve the level of advanced scientific cooperation between University of Baghdad and various German educational institutions since our university announced the establishment of the Iraqi-German laboratory which was opened at University of Baghdad recently. The two parties also stressed their desire to extend the bridges of scientific and technical cooperation towards signing of other conventions and treaties for providing opportunities for teaching staff training and helping postgraduate students to complete their experiments at University of Freiburg laboratories in addition to the possibility of starting a twinning program with the forth mentioned university at the doctoral level. At the conclusion of this visit, the delegation of University of Baghdad expressed his pleasure for the success reached out through this fruitful visit towards achieving their desired goals since the admission in the German universities does not require tuition fees which is something that suits our economic situation in Iraq, otherwise providing support for the Iraqi universities in some advanced scientific techniques.

President of University of Baghdad signs a memorandum of understanding with the German University of Leipzig


President of University of Baghdad, Prof. Dr. Alaa Abdul Hussein Abdul Rasul signed a memorandum of understanding with the German University of Leipzig during his visit to Germany where he was received by president of University of Leipzig, Dr. Abel Jezin Grande and her entourage and she expressed her great pleasure for this fruitful cooperation with University of Baghdad as well as her intention to provide all possible assistance in this quest. The meeting resulted in signing of a memorandum of understanding between the two sides in addition to discussing the possibility of admission of Iraqi students interested in studying communications and information technology in Germany in general and in University of Leipzig in particular as well as providing opportunities for MA and PhD students studying in Iraq to accomplish some of their practical experiments there. 

President of University of Baghdad signs a memorandum of understanding with the German Archaeological Institute


President of University of Baghdad, Prof. Dr. Alaa Abdul Hussein, headed the delegation of our university during his recent visit to the Archaeological Institute, Germany. This visit came as a result of a formal invitation from the German side where the rector of University of Baghdad signed several memoranda of understanding with the German Archaeological Institute (DAI) in Berlin directed by Prof. Dr. Fredrick Fils. The terms of agreement included approval of the parties to establish the Iraqi-German College as the nucleus of the Iraqi-German University as well as discussing the possibility of establishing the Iraqi-German College of Technology and Applied Sciences. The signing of theses decrees was attended by a constellation of professors and researchers of the two countries, including His Excellency the Iraqi Ambassador in Berlin Prof. Thiaa Hadi Mahmmoud al-Dabbas, Dr. Salah Aid Flaifel, dean of the faculty of arts, director of department of cultural relations at University of Baghdad, Prof. Dr. Iyad Kazim Zigair as well as director of department of Middle East, Prof. Dr. Ricardo Eichmann, Dr. Margaret Van S., scientific director of the German Archaeological Institute and several German professors and experts in the field of antiquities.

University of Baghdad receives a delegation of the American Cultural Mission to conclude a memorandum of understanding


President of University of Baghdad, Prof. Dr. Alaa Abdul Hussein Abdul Rasool received the new cultural attaché at the American embassy Christian Karol and her entourage where he shed light on the history of University of Baghdad, its foundation, colleges, centers, institutes, the number of staff and students, referring also to the stages of our university’s technical and academic development according to QS Rankings since University of Baghdad got the first Iraqi rank and the (501) rank world-wide. The American Cultural Mission from its side praised the role of University of Baghdad in supplying our country with the best academic competence through its connection with US embassy in Baghdad through workshops and conferences as well as conclusion of scientific and research agreements with American universities. Christian Karol confirmed that he prepares to sign a memorandum of understanding with University of Baghdad to develop the scientific and academic side by recruiting a number of professors and lecturers from different discreet American universities to give lectures in Baghdad. Prof. Dr. Alaa Abdul Hussein confirmed his willingness to sign this memorandum with Washington and hoped for application of the cultural mission programs and at the conclusion of this meeting the rector dedicated the university shield to the cultural attaché for her efforts that will contribute to the advance of our university. It is worth mentioning that this meeting was attended by Associate rector for scientific affairs Prof. Dr. Osama Fadel Abdul Latif and director of department of cultural relations Assistant Prof. Dr. Iyad Kazim.


President of University of Baghdad meets the winners in DW Channel competition


President of University of Baghdad, Prof. Dr. Alaa Abdul Hussein Abdul Rasool received the dean of the college of media, Prof. Dr. Hashim Hussein al-Tamimi and the college team winning in a competition sponsored by the German DW Channel for preparation of radio and television reports. The rector confirmed the importance of the optimal marketing of university outputs to marketplace that requires a distinct media role that should work in sincerity, honesty and objectivity in order to transfer the truth away from any pressures exerted by satellite owners or local newspapers. President of University of Baghdad added that media’s role is to instill a spirit of hope, tolerance, non-violence and bloodshed through coverage of activities of humanitarian organizations when providing services to the displaced people and at the conclusion of this meeting the rector distributed certificates of appreciation to Prof. Dr. Hashim Hassein al-Tamimi, Radio Director at the college Prof. Mohammed al-Mamouri and director of department of information and public relations at the presidency of University of Baghdad Assistant Prof. Dr. Adel Abdul Razak Mustaf in addition to certificates to a number of students participating in this competition.


University of Baghdad participates in the first meeting of Iraqi university rectors in Erbil


University of Baghdad participated in the 1st meeting of Iraqi university rectors held Erbil represented by Associate Rector for administrative affairs Prof. Dr. Riyad Khalil Khammas that witnessed the participation of a number of members of Federation of Arab Universities. The first session included the Iraqi universities’ position from this federation and discussing a proposal to establish new Iraqi universities as well as amendment of procedure of the federation and relations between Iraqi governmental and civil universities. The attendees also addressed matters such as Iraq’s continued membership, activating its leading role in supporting and guiding Federation of Arab Universities in scientific research, overcoming obstacles faced by scholars and the necessity of creating common scientific horizons. The session reached at several recommendations, namely to urge Iraqi universities to participate in this membership, create opportunities to exempt Iraqi universities from subscription fees for the past years, grant visas to members and to address the ministry of foreign affairs for treating University rectors, Associate rectors and deans as diplomats as well as establishment of a federation of Iraqi universities.


Workshop on admission controls for (2017-2018) at Student Affairs and Certification Department 


Students and Certification Department at University of Baghdad held a workshop under the auspices of the university president, Prof. Dr. Alaa Abdul Hussein and Associate Rector for scientific affairs Assist. Prof. Dr. Osama Fadil Abdul Latif and director of Student Affairs and Certification Department Assist. Prof. Dr. Udai Kareem Lueibi. The workshop addressed many important topics such as procedures adopted by this department and controls for student admission for the coming academic year (2017-2018) for the morning and evening studies in the presence of the representative of the Office Inspector General at the ministry of higher education as well as directors and associates of registration departments at all university formations. The participants discussed also hosting, transfer and re-nomination of students and Master Sheet. 

University of Baghdad Council holds a workshop on ​E-Government Citizen Program 


Council of University of Baghdad set up a workshop on E-Government Citizen Program for members and teaching staff at all university formations chaired by the Rector Prof. Dr. Alaa Abdul Hussein Abdul Rasool. The workshop dealt with explaining this program’s mechanisms such as how to submit complaints, requests and proposals from affiliated employees, how to deal with them, as well as how to refer applications and complaints to those concerned. The participants were informed also of how to link the administrative work electronically between the ministry and the universities, stressing on adoption of transparency in dealing with the citizens. At the conclusion of this event, the president of University of Baghdad stressed the significance of this e-service as a link between the government and the citizen in complementary to the efforts of both the university and the ministry.


Launching of student exams (first phase) at the faculty of physical education


Student exams were launched at the faculty of physical education and sports sciences for the new male applicants at University of Baghdad for admission during the academic year (2017-2018) who have undergone health tests to ensure their lake of any physical impairments or diseases that would adversely affect their health in case of exercise. The applicants were subject also to skill and physical tests prescribed in the college’s testing curriculum and then were interviewed to complete all their test requirements.


College of veterinary medicine holds its 24th meeting for Committee of Deans of Faculties of Veterinary Medicine


College of veterinary medicine at University of Baghdad held its 24th meeting for Committee of Deans of Iraqi Faculties of Veterinary Medicine in the presence of president of the university Prof. Dr. Alaa Abdul Hussein Abdul Rasool and several deans of veterinary colleges in Iraq. This meeting addressed important matters such as approval of certain resolutions taken at the 23th meeting after endorsement of its minutes by the ministry of higher education and scientific research and selection of Committee of Experts in various specialties as well as keeping abreast of curricula for Diploma in veterinary reproduction, the ministry’s book concerning the veterinary coordination body, scientific laboratories and the form accredited. Rector of University of Baghdad asserted during this meeting the importance of this coordination among veterinary colleges in Iraqi and development of academic work, thereby contributing in upgrading the academic and the practical reality in these faculties.


University of Baghdad gains the first place in dissemination of scientific research at the level of Iraq 


University of Baghdad gained the first rank in dissemination of academic and scientific research at the level of Iraqi universities by publishing (5260) researches with (56) H index coefficient during July followed by University of Mosul that gained the rank (2294) with (36) H index coefficient according to statistics registered by Department of Research and Development at the ministry of higher education and scientific research. It is worth mentioning that the professors of University of Baghdad have registered their research in Scopus which is the largest abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed literature in addition the university 501th rank in QS World University Rankings and it is keeping pace in this quest to be in line with the most discreet world universities.


Scientific cooperation between al-Khwarizmi College of engineering and NASA 


Assist. Prof. Yarob Omar Naji, an instructor from the department of mechatronics engineering at al-Khwarizmi College of engineering, University of Baghdad who has gained a scholarship for doctoral studies at George Washington University, USA published his scientific research entitled “Self-regulation feed into sensor chip and ultrasonic communication within structures” in collaboration with NASA Space research Agency during MWSCAS 2017 Conference, IEEE held at Tufts University, Boston, USA. The research addressed the design of self-feeding system in a chip by exploiting the vibration power available in the wings of aircraft to feed an electronic radio transmitter planted inside the wing in specific numbers for early detection of cracks and to send information to the microcontroller center to make what is necessary in such cases. Dean of al-Khwarizmi College of engineering, Prof. Dr. Alaa Karim Mohammed praised the efforts of professors and researchers to reach globalization through their participation in international forums and publishing their research in sober journals with Impact Factor such as Thomson Reuters.


College of veterinary medicine participates in a course on laboratory equipment at University of Tabriz 


A number of instructors from the college of veterinary medicine at University of Baghdad participated in a training course sponsored by University of Tabriz, Iran to keep abreast of the latest laboratory equipment and how to use it in several professors from Nahrain University, University of Duhuk and Al-Maamoon University Collage. The course included information on PCR and Immune histochemistry application of nano and the participants received certificates of appreciation at the conclusion of this course. It is worth mentioned that this course is the first of its kind for reaching at a scientific cooperation between University of Tabriz and the faculty of veterinary medicine towards establishing joint futures events in this regard.


Delegation of University of Baghdad visits the National Defense University for Military Studies


A delegation from University of Baghdad headed Associate Rector for scientific affairs, Assist. Prof. Dr. Osama Fadel and director of department of postgraduate studies, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Waheed and Associate Dean of the faculty of political science, Dr. Hamsa Kahtan visited the National Defense University for Military Studies and National Defense College. The delegation was informed of scientific, technical and administrative aspects at the university in order to complete the scientific requirements for completion of postgraduate project for graduates of the national defense courses where they agreed to complete the curricula and the necessity of holding joint meetings for admission controls.


President of University of Baghdad inspects the department of sports and artistic activities 


President of University of Baghdad, Prof. Dr. Alaa Abdul Hussein Abdul Rasool made a tour at the university presidency to inspect the department of sports and artistic activities at the university where he kept abreast of sports halls and the nature of services provided by this department such as various courses and games. The rector was received by director of department Prof. Dr. Mohammed Kazim and he visited also the kindergarten where he called for providing the best services and facilities to them.
