Abstract
This study was conducted in the animal farm of the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences – University of Baghdad (main experiment) in addition to a number of private and governmental fields in Iraq. The current study aimed to determine the morphological characteristics and real dimensions of the Iraqi Goitered gazelle using two methods: the tape measuring method (the direct method) and the innovative linear parallel laser method (the indirect method). The results were recorded as an average in addition to the general rate from the lowest value to the highest value. The morphological characteristics measured using the direct and indirect method included horn length, forehead length, shoulder height, ear length, tail length and neck circumference (cm), as well as body weight measurements for all animals studied.
The results indicated that there is a close convergence in the body measurements obtained using the previous methods of both males and females Iraqi Goitered gazelle. From the results of this study we conclude that the method of indirect measurement of the animal dimensions using linear parallel laser method (innovative method) can be used practically to determine the dimensions of animals remotely and with high accuracy without causing stress to animals as a result of hunting and keeping them in addition to the possibility of estimating the age of animals depending on their dimensions using this method.
