Sarah Abdul Sattar al-Saadi, a student from the department of architecture at the college of engineering has received recently the International Excellence Award for graduation projects for her project entitled “Renovating Al-Dawasa Street in Mosul”.

In this project, the architect proposed the revival of this former cultural road which was originally known for its museums, cinemas as well as the religious spaces nearby, although the identity of this street has gone through various stages of transformation into a commercially oriented hospitality area however, it remains as a cultural landmark in Mosul.

The jury agreed that such a project represents an innovative and accurate study of the current urban conditions and a very good analysis of Mosul’s recent history, along with the recent destruction facing this ancient city.

Also the student Ahmed Shihab received a discretionary award for his project that presents a waste management system that deals with the garbage crisis in Baghdad and the best mechanisms for waste collection and material recovery through a three-stage plan.
