The national pioneer center for cancer research at University of Baghdad organized a scientific symposium on the occasion of the World Cancer Month under the slogan (Promoting reliability and quality assurance in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer) chaired by director of the center, Prof. Dr. Nada al-Alwan who delivered a lecture at the opening of this event on the purpose of this celebration of World Cancer Month sponsored by the World Health Organization (WHO), the International Cancer Federation and other global medical institutions to combat this disease which is considered the leading cause of death in the developing world and the biggest challenge for health bodies worldwide. Prof. Dr. Nada al-Alwan also noted the importance of promoting quality assurance in cancer diagnosis, treatment and control by following the global standards of reliability at the national level. A number of professors were then directly contacted through the video conference technology on the reliability and confronting cancer in Iraq and they stressed the willingness of the international community to cooperate fully with the center in this regard. It is worth mentioning that this symposium was attended by the representative of the minister of higher education and scientific research, Prof. Dr. Musa al-Musawi with the presence of the Chairman of the supervisory and scientific evaluation, Prof. Dr. Nabil al-Araji. Rector of the University of Baghdad Prof. Dr. Alaa Abdul Hussein Abdul Rasool, director of Iraq Bureau of World Health Organization Dr. Adham Ismail and 300 specialists from the ministries of higher education and health representing 14 governorates.
