Symposium on the mechanism of publishing researches at the faculty of education (Ibn al-Haitham)
The faculty of education for pure sciences (Ibn al-Haitham), Baghdad University held a symposium entitled “how to choose the appropriate periodical for publishing researches” at the department of physics. The teacher Dr. Emad Hadi Khalil delivered a detailed lecture including various themes where he dealt at the beginning with the importance of defining the goal of publishing, target group and a sober journal. The lecturer noted that several measures were developed of the practical status such as “(JCR) factor” issued by (THOMSON REUTERS) that depends when evaluating researches on the extent to which other researchers benefit from the published researches represented by the number of citations or quotations made by other researchers to the total number of published researches, adding that there are several factors that may determine the reliability of any journal one of which is being issued by a well-known publishing house with a good Impact Factor like (JCR) and a distinguished editorial board. Also the title of the journal should reflect its orientation and not to combine heterogeneous specializations as well as the researches should be submitted to sober review and arbitration within an appropriate period. Several recommendations have emerged from this lecture that called the researches not to publish their papers in profit publishing houses that exploit them and reduce their academic status and the necessity of adoption of common standards to identify the sobriety of international journals as well as the importance of holding training courses for assisting researchers in this regard that would reflect positively on the prestige of the universities.
