The Department of Geology at the College of Science, University of Baghdad, in collaboration with the Continuing Education Unit, organized a workshop entitled “Intellectual Extremism and the Need to Combat Its Promoters.”

The workshop aimed to define the phenomenon of extremism, noting that it is associated with individuals or groups who adopt radical ideologies that violate legal and religious norms.

It also addressed the concept of intellectual extremism as the most severe form of extremism, characterized by deviation from the prevailing intellectual and cultural norms of society. The session highlighted strategies for addressing this phenomenon and combating its promoters, emphasizing the role of the family in instilling good morals, managing emotional responses, and nurturing patriotism.

Among the key recommendations of the workshop was the implementation of flexible educational curricula that facilitate the realization of individual aspirations within an economic context that attracts young talent and steers them away from adopting deviant and harmful behaviors that threaten societal peace and security.

This activity contributes to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 16, which advocates for peace, justice, and strong institutions.
